Free Pantene at Kmart!

If you happen to have one of the $2 coupons off Pantene, your in luck! Kmart has Pantene shampoo and conditioner on sale 2/$7....but they are doubling coupons for health and beauty! yay! So you get them for free. There are other GREAT deals there with the double coupons....including Gillette Mens Body Wash for $0.49 with a $2 coupon, Playtex Pearl for $0.49 with $2 coupon, Gillette Fusion Pro Aftershave lotion $1.99 with $2 coupon. Check any coupons you have and see what you can get $4 off, you can get some really great deals!

Items must be health and beauty and they will double any coupon up to $2. If the product is cheaper then the double coupon, they will only take up the amount of the product, so no money makers, but hey, it's FREE!

I went to the Rio Rancho Kmart and it worked there.....and I called the Kmart on Carlisle and they said they were participating. You must have their Shop Your Way Rewards card...make sure to sign up for it BEFORE they ring up your items or it won't work.

I'm just starting with this whole Target coupon thing...but boy am I loving it! Here's my score today...I know some of you get way more for your money, but this is a great first start for me! I spent $17.11 and saved $13.91. Here's what I got for that though:

Walgreens Coupon Policy

So I have seen so many people getting tons of items for VERY cheap or free at Walgreens and didn't understand how they did it. I found a copy of their coupon policy at AFullCup.com

Looks like they accept one manufacturers coupon along with a Walgreens coupon! yay!

Can a customer use both a Manufacturer's coupon and Walgreens coupon
for the same item in a purchase?

One Walgreen and one manufacturer coupon can be used for the same
item, unless either coupon prohibits such use.
Walgreens Roto Ad Coupons, Instant Value Coupons (IVC), and a
manufacturer's coupon can be used towards the purchase of any one
item. "One coupon per purchase" means one coupon must be tendered for
each PIECE sold.

What happens if the Manufacturer coupon's value is more than the
retail value?
Walgreens does not provide cash back if a coupon is presented for more
than the purchase value of the item (e.g., the customer is using the
coupon to purchase a clearance item).
If the retail of the item is less than the face value of the coupon:
the coupon value shall be the retail value if the state requires taxes
to be paid on that item,
the coupon value shall be the retail value plus taxes if the state

Paint with Ice Cubes!

Summertime is so long and hot and the kids get bored easy. Why not have a fun activity that will also cool down the kids?!? Kate at Minieco has a great idea of painting with ice cubes. Simply fill ice cube trays with water, drop in a few drops of food coloring then freeze. You can then put the kids outside to paint on sheets of paper or my favorite, an old white sheet. What a fun idea and the kids would keep nice and cool while creating their latest piece of artwork.

I had no idea until today that at Target, you can stack coupons...everyday! Yep, their coupon policy allows you to use a Target coupon and manufacturer coupon at the same time. This opens so many doors for FREE or very inexpensive items!

Here's a copy of their Coupon Policy:

Summertime things to do!

With summertime here and the kids home......every day can get to be expensive! Here are some ideas to help cut costs and keep the kids active over the summer.

Regal Theaters has free movies every Tuesday and Wednesday morning at 10am. They are older movies, you may even have some on DVD, however they are free and going to a theater is always more fun. If your worried that your little one can't make it through a full movie, no worries, the whole theater is full of kids.....and you didn't pay to see the movie anyway!

Many parks have free lunch for the kids. They are available in both Rio Rancho and Albuquerque. The park will be full of kids and your kids can eat for free. They offer a free lunch for any children between 1 and 18 years.

If you are in Bernalillo County, go visit the fire department to get a free pass to go swimming. Can't beat free!

If you have the extra to spend....why not buy a pool for the kids? We just bought the kids a 10ft by 30in pool for $60. It's an easy set and included the pump/filter. I figure, going to the pool with 3 kids costs $13 a visit.....but for $60 the kids can swim every day if they want. Target has pools this size on sale right now! It's big enough for all 3 of my kids to play in comfortable but my 4 year old can still stand up in it.

If you don't want to buy a pool, you can always save a little and take the kids to the new Alameda Spray Park. It's cheap, like $1 for kids (don't quote me, but cheap) and there are lots of different sprinklers, buckets and water fun. We haven't been yet, but I really want to take the kids!

Don't Throw Away Those Torn or Too-Small Jeans!

My daughter has outgrown almost all of her jeans and it breaks my heart to get rid of her jeans that look nearly new because they are too short. I found a way to convert her jeans that fit well in the waist but are too short for her super-long legs. I converted them into a really cute skirt.

I like that, but wanted to add a little flare for my daughter because she is VERY girly and loves frilly things. I added a cute ruffle of some cheery fabric to make it oh-so-adorable. It is so simple, you will be amazed and you can make the skirt as long or short as you would like, add a ruffle or not, whatever you want to do to personalize!

Do you enjoy throwing parties, but hate having to spend so much money on food and/or entertainment. I have found the perfect website that will help you out!

HouseParty.com is a website that is used by many leading companies to assist with advertisement and promotion. I signed up after hearing about it on a few different groups I belong to. I AM SO GLAD THAT I DID!

I signed up and the first party I was offered was for Domino's Pizza American Legends. They sent me a $75 gift card for Domino's to throw a party and buy the food. I also got coupons and a card game. It was so awesome being able to invite friends over and having the food paid for. Everyone got to try one of each of the new American Legends pizzas and talk about their favorites.

I just received a box with the supplies for my second party! I am UBER impressed! It is for the new cartoon Hot Wheels Battle Force 5, which will be aired on Cartoon Network. They sent enough stuff that my son can have all his friends over to watch the new cartoon before it is even on TV. My son got a new Battle Force 5 car with action figure (I thought it was going to be a small car, but its about a 10inch car) along with posters, magazines and catalogs for all his guests.

I highly recommend you sign up with them, and be sure to get messages sent to you when a new party sign-up is available. During the sign-up period you fill out a questionnaire and if you are chosen, they send you an email. It's easy and FREE!

Stock up on supplies!

I love back to school time! There are savings everywhere! There is no other time of year that you can buy packs of crayons for $0.20 a piece!

I am lucky enough to not have to actually buy supplies for my kids. Their school just takes a flat $30 supply fee and the teachers buy everything they need/want for the classroom. It is very nice not having to fight with crowds to find a certain brand of crayon or whatever.

Although I don't HAVE to buy supplies, there are a few things I will be buying. I like to keep folders, spiral notebooks along with lots and lots of crayons, markers and pencils in stock. With three kids you can't have enough crayons. Each time I go to Walmart I pick up 5 packs of crayons and spend an extra $1.00. That $1 here and there will really add up if I had to buy the crayons throughout the year.

If you have an extra $10, go and buy up a stock of folders, notebooks, pencils, etc. You will be surprised at how much you can buy for $10 now, compared to later in the year. You also then already have what you need at hand. Empty a shelf or drawer and fill it up now, it will save you so much money in the long run!

NM Tax-Free Weekend is almost here!

Don't forget that the New Mexico tax-free weekend is almost here. According to the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue website, the tax-free weekend begins the first Friday in August and ends the following Sunday. This year it begins on August 7 and ends August 9.

The tax-free weekend includes:

clothing or shoes must be priced at less than$100 per unit
desktop, laptop or notebook computers priced less than $1000
computer hardware priced $500 or less
school supplies priced less than $15 per unit

RENT College Text Books!

I am starting back to school this fall (YAY!), and was amazed at the price of text books. My text books, even used are more than twice the cost of my classes at CNM. I still can't believe that USED text books are so expensive, and when you sell them back at the end of the semester you hardly get anything for them. It sucks!

I have found a great solution! Instead of BUYING your books, rent them for a fraction of the cost. At Chegg you can rent your books for a full semester and spend WAY less than you would going through the bookstore.

Here's how it works:

Figure out the books you need and go to Chegg.com to see their prices. You'll be amazed at the prices!
Place your order and select the type of shipping you want, either standard or priority.
You will receive your books in the mail. Take care of them, although you are able to highlight to a degree, don't go over board, be respectful.
When the semester is over, return your book(s) with the pre-paid postage label.

You can even sell books to them. For every book you rent, buy or sell Chegg will plant a tree.

Angel Food Ministries.....

I have yet another way to save on some food. I personally haven't tried this, but have friends that have and said it was a great deal.

Angel Food Ministries is a website dedicated to helping people afford food (although it is not income-based, anyone can order from them). Each month they offer a box of food, normally enough to feed a family of 4 for a week or more. Each box costs $30 and there are additional items you can add.

Let me explain......

Ok, so you found the closest....great. Now figure out what you want to purchase, and find how that facility takes orders. Currently Worldwide Worship Center and Families Plus, Inc take orders online. The other two must be placed in person. They each have a different date/time that the box must be ordered. They are all either on August 16 or 17th, it looks like.

So you order your box(es) and then find when that facility hands the food out. They all normally have a Saturday between certain times that you must go and pick up the food.

If your looking to save some money, this might be a great way to go. I keep saying I want to try it, but there aren't any churches participating in Rio Rancho.....so the drive would make up a big difference in the cost of food. Some Thrift Stores are EXPENSIVE

You think if you go to a thrift store, that you will be able to find some great deals...but that isn't always the case. Sometimes thrift stores charge nearly what Walmart does. Why would I buy something from a second hand store that I could buy new for a dollar or two more at Walmart or Target?

In the metro area there are lots of thrift stores, but many do not have a high quality or are just too darn expensive. It surprises me when I hear people talk about shopping for clothing at Goodwill or Savers. I have NEVER found a great deal at any of those places.

Here are my best choices for clothing:

1. Thrift Town - located at 3900 Menaul NE. I find clothing there for the best prices. Many of my jeans, which are nearly all Abercrombie & Fitch I was able to pick up there for less than $4 a pair. That is a steal! I have gotten shirts for the kids for less than $1. Most things are normally is good condition and it is easy to navigate through the store and find what you need and the right size.

2. Yard Sales - especially for kids clothing and household items! I found large area rugs for our house for $20...which were styles still sold at Target for $70 on up. Kids clothing you can often find for steals, like $0.25 a piece or something like that.

3. Freecycle - This group is awesome because everything is **FREE** Girls and baby clothes are often given away. There is a group for Albuquerque, Rio Rancho and East Mountains. You never know what people will give away, but if you need anything at all, you can ask and someone may give it to you. I have gotten most of my daugthers clothing from Freecycle, and they are mainly name brand and excellent quality. This has been a huge help for our family.

Groceries are the largest bill for many families, and the bigger the family (and older the children) the higher the bill can be. I went through a few weeks when my oldest two were both growing, and eating like CrAzY! It was so expensive!

Luckily I have a great routine in place that really helps us save on our grocery bill. I follow a site called Menus4Moms. This site is AWESOME because you get a full weeks menu each week, complete with recipes and grocery list.

By following these recipes, using two weeks at a time and buying groceries, I can spend about $100 every two weeks.....that covers all our dinners for two full weeks. Not too bad for a family of five!

Help With Food...and kids clothing

They are open Monday through Saturday from 9am-12pm. Simply show up with your ID card, a utility bill to show where you live, $3.00, a box and some bags. The $3 is to help them cover the cost of delivery and refrigeration. You will go in and give your information then move ahead to gather some groceries they will give you. From there you go to the next room and are able to pick from the produce they have available. After picking produce you are able to get breads, bagels, english muffins, etc.

Did you notice I didn't say anything about bringing pay stubs or proof of income. They don't check. They want to help anyone that needs the help.

Most of the items come from Albertson's and Whole Foods, meaning many of the produce is organic. This is a great help for anyone that needs it to be able to get by.

After picking up groceries you can go around the side and there is a place for help with children's clothing. Just walk around to the other side and they will hook your kids up with some clothing to get them by.

Each summer, Regal theaters offer Free Family Films each week. This year, each Tuesday and Wednesday morning at 10am they offer two movies to choose from. Here is now it works......show up for the movie, and show up EARLY if you want to choose your seats. All shows are on a first come/first served basis. If you show up at 10 and expect to get seats for your family of 5, you may be out of luck. After you get there you will walk in and tell them which movie you wan to see. They tell you what theater you will be in and you can go and sit down. Thats it....nice and simple....and FREE. :)

My name is the Thrifty Ninja! I am the mother of three children and am always on the search for a good bargain or way to save money. I have told people about different findings and everyone seems fairly impressed and wants to know how I find out.
